Math Link Activities For Preschoolers
Math links have been a staple in my classroom since the beginning of time. With very little direction I can pull out a tub of math links and somehow my kids just know what to do with them. Math links are my kids favorite math manipulative!
In my mix aged group classroom my kids love to create mixed colored, and sometimes patterns with the links into what they like to call snakes! No matter what I do to try to get them to use them in another way, somehow they resort back to creating 10 foot long snakes with the never ending math links. So after raking my brain about how I could get them to use them in other ways, I had an emphinany, why don’t I just create snake cards with numbers on them. I know, I ended up giving into the very thing I was fighting so long.
This was a huge lesson to me as a teacher! I sometimes get so caught up in how I want children to learn with the materials I place out, that I often times have to remember that children learn in their own unique ways.
Kids love them, and teachers love them as well, They are super easy to use and they add some extra fun to math links!
